Tanishq stands up for gay rights in India and wins Great PR
12th December 2013
We've seen some cracking examples of great PR this week!
1. Tanishq stands up for gay rights in India
Even as the Supreme Court of India turned aside the Delhi High Court judgement that made sex between two consenting adults of the same sex legal in India under Section 377; jewellery maker Tanishq came out with this gem of a tweet in favour of decriminalising homosexuality in India.
Great timely PR from a company normally associated with tradition and marriage. But of late Tanishq has been pushing the envelope with their ad on remarriage for women.
2. Standard Chartered spreads Christmas cheer with the #GoodDeedMarathon
As Christmas cheer is evident across the malls and markets of India, Standard Chartered has upped the feel good factor with its campaign #GoodDeedMarathon.
While the Standard Chartered Mumbai marathon is a well-known annual fund raising event, you don’t have to actually run a marathon for this virtual marathon but you do have to submit the good deeds you have done for maximum city Mumbai.
Watch what some people had to say about what they would like to do for Mumbai:
Submitting your good deeds (the first 2000 entries) gets you a marathon starter pack with a band. In a great example of offline and online integration the 20 day campaign (started 5th December) is well promoted on Radio Mirchi and via PVR Cinemas.
Actually physically getting a starter kit with a band makes the whole experience that much more exciting.
3. Snickers uses gaming to spread their veg chocolates message!
According to Social Samosa popular chocolate brand Snickers used gesture based gaming to spread the message about their range of vegetarian chocolates!
Consumers had to assemble a puzzle using a gaming console with touch based technology. Completing the puzzle led to one message: That Snickers now has a vegetarian range.
Great experiential campaign with a message that matters for the many vegetarians in India.
4. #KnitGrannyKnit is a great interactive PR stunt
With winter chill and Christmas in the air, here is a great little PR stunt done by Evans Hunt, a digital marketing agency based in Canada. It’s even more interesting that while the agency has nothing do with knitwear, the campaign ends up showcasing their creativity very well. They have created the character of Chief Knitting Office aka Granny Gladys as she live knits your tweets through the month of December. Use the hashtag #knitgrannyknit., to submit an idea for a tweet, that may end up as knitwear soon.
What’s more, it’s all for a good cause: For every tweet Evans Hunt receives, they’re donating $1 to the Alberta Children’s Cottage Society charity.
Would love to see our local woollies manufacturers do something like this for the many who die of the cold on north Indian streets in winter.
