Hill + Knowlton’s Strategies’ Deepa Jayaraman co-writes a social media fable for startups

I grew up reading fables of all kinds, the Panchtantra, so akin to Aesop’s Fables. The instructive Amar Chitra Katha stories of Birbal and Tenali Raman.

So when Hill + Knowlton Strategies COO, Deepa Jayaraman , shared that she has penned a social media fable along with entrepreneur and LinkedIn influencer, Benita Bhatia Dua, as a guide for startups, I was immediately keen to read it.

The book, titled, “ Whale of a Time With Social Media”, released in October 2017, is an easy breezy read, telling the story of a young dolphin, Merlo’s journey to being an entrepreneur.

Her enterprise? It involves whales and a certain natural by-product from whales, is all I am going to share for now. But it’s super relevant keeping in mind the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat move. There. That’s a big hint!

More importantly, the book tracks Merlo the dolphin’s journey to being a successful startup entirely using social media platforms to mark different aspects of the move from idea to execution. Though mostly for beginners, as such, it’s a lovely reminder of how much social media helps us in our lives.

The book also has useful annexes of a fairly comprehensive list of social media tools, along with a guide on social media etiquette ( super relevant!) and a worksheet you can fill in to identify your target audience.

You can buy the book on Amazon here.

Deepa Jayaraman has also very kindly agreed to give away to two books to PRmoment India readers with the top 2 answers on social media hacks for media relations as picked by her and Benita. The top 5 answers will also be curated for Moushumi Dutt’s PR Parables column for PRmoment India.

So dig out your social media hat and share, share, share!
