Of course it is IPL season and of course it is God’s 40th birthday and then there is the Gayle firestorm. Is it any wonder that cricket dominates both Twitter and the news agenda this week?

Chris Gayle’s whirlwind 66-ball unbeaten 175, as the story in the Times of India calls it, also generated a firestorm of the crease. #GayleStorm, continue to make it into the top ten twitter trends since the match winning knock took place Tuesday.

Is Gayle human, asks DNA newspaper commenting on the fastest century in 20:20 cricket along with other breathless coverage on television. Watch the amazing run of, well, runs here:

And if this wasn’t exciting enough, God, aka Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, turned 40 mid week, unleashing a tornado of stories, comments and of course Amul cartoons.

Two different hashtags  #SachinRameshTendulkar and  #SachinBabaChaalisMore, made it to the top ten, even as a handful of other hashtags around his birthday also swirled on Twitter.  ESPN tweeted this tribute:

US consulate on Chennai tries to create PR through social media
 

United States has created a Facebook page for its consulate in Chennai. For anyone who has suffered the less than pleasant experience of getting visas and other documents from various consulates in India, the social media presence of a US embassy is a nice surprise .

As per this post, officers from the US consulate in Chennai used Facebook to answer questions about business and work visas.

What a sharp contrast to embassies like Ukraine, where it is difficult to get even basic questions answered on how to apply for a tourist visa!
