Uber to draw up comms plan to address concerns in India

PRmoment India talks to Chhavi Leekha, Director of Communications India, Uber Technologies Inc. about her new role, what she has planned for the company and how she will put those plans into action.

PRmoment India: What do you see as your main communication priority at Uber?

Chhavi Leekha: Uber is a young, dynamic technology start-up that has had huge success in very short time across the world. In India, it is still taking shape as an innovative company that has successfully disrupted the market for the advantage of its customers.

My priority is to establish Uber as a safe, fast paced, convenient, reliable company with a human touch, one that drives value through technology with care for the people it serves.

PRmoment India: Uber has faced several controversies in the last two months in India, including the rape of a customer by an Uber cab driver? How will Uber address these issues?

Chhavi Leekha: Since I have just taken over, I am yet in the process of taking stock. And as I said, Uber is evolving fast and is gearing up to address the Indian sensitivities. We are committed to respecting the law and the regulations and work closely with the government to continue with improvements and suggestions to enhance the favorable atmosphere for startups and growth in India.

PRmoment India: What is Uber doing to communicate a safer drive for its passengers?

Chhavi Leekha: We are working on a comprehensive communication strategy to not only extend our outreach but also to involve a deeper dialogue and two way feedback mechanism.

PRmoment India: How does Uber plan to work with different stakeholders (government, customers, and drivers) to address the issues of driver quality, customer safety and better GPS trackers and regulatory compliances?

Chhavi Leekha: We reiterate our commitment to work closely with all stakeholders and engage regularly with them. As of now, a roadmap is being chalked out to ensure the safety and convenience of our customers as well as taking the compliance factor into account.
