17% of the India population are online and 7% is on Facebook according to research by wearesocial.
The recent study looks at social, digital and mobile worldwide in 2014 within the Asia-Pacific region.
An overall snapshot of India highlights that only 17% of India are online, however this still means a huge 213,000,000 people, with 7% of these users on Facebook. While 73% have a mobile subscription.
The mobile internet percentage of the entire population is at 11%, however the most time spent online (4h 54m) is still via a desktop or laptop.
12% of India’s population use social media with an average of 2h 26m spent browsing them. 57% of this activity however is done via a mobile.
These results below for India’s social media usage seems very high, stating that a massive 97% of India internet users are on social media, and 94% own a Facebook account. Although the actual percentage of usage in the past month drops significantly in some categories the results still seem very steep.
Research shows that the majority, 95%, of all mobile subscriptions are pre-paid, while only 6% are 3G connected.
13% of India’s total population own smartphones. This highlights that a massive 95% of users search for local information via their phone with researching products not far behind at 91%. However only 54% have actually purchased a product through their phone.
There is 59.8 million active mobile broadband subscriptions in India. There is also 72 million active social media users accessing social via their mobile.
