Tushar Makkar joins Arvind as group head, corporate communications

Seasoned corporate communications hand, Tushar Makkar, has taken over as head of corporate communications at Arvind, across all its businesses. Arvind Ltd. is one of the world's largest denim manufaturers' in the world.

Arvind Ltd. is currently in the process of demerging it's branded apparel and engineering businesse from the core textile business and from its real estate business. Once the demerger is complete, Arvind Fashions Ltd and Anup Engineering will be listed as independent companies. This means that Makkar, as group head of corporate communications, will tackle a wide range of communication tasks across several industry verticals from established listed firms to incubating companies.

Arvind Ltd is incubating companies in the area of advanced materials which covers technical and functional fabrics and carbon composites, internet solutions for brand experiences, environment solutions and telecoms. In the area of functional fabrics, Arvind has developed microbe resistant fabrics for hospital use. Arvind has also developed a 100% recyclable material which can replace vinyl and  PVC flex, which are widely used for banner printing. Currently the Kerala high court is hearing a petition on the use of flex for advertising and election campaigns.

Makkar also handles communications for the Lalbhai family (promoters of Arvind Ltd.) endeavours in the area of culture and education.

Over a career span of over 20 years, Makkar has spent 8 years at Microsoft as head of business value communications for India and 4 years at IBM as regional communications manager for India and South Asia.
